Food Wine Travel Magazine has named Mesilla as a top travel destination. Old Mesilla was listed among 12 other destinations.
The old western roots in was what landed Mesilla on the list. In particular the connection to Billy the Kid and the location of his sentencing being located there. Billy the Kid was sentenced to hang in 1881 at the jail house, which is now a gift shop.
Local eateries such as Double Eagle was mentioned as it has an interesting ghost story attached to the location. The structure was built in 1849 as a home that later was converted to a restaurant. The Basilica of San Albino is also a noteworthy location mentioned in the article.
